Product Care

Made to Be Loved.
Designed to Last.

A little thoughtful care helps preserve the natural beauty of bamboo, cane and kauna grass for years to come.

Caring for Natural Materials

Care that feels natural.

Every Woven Earth piece is made from natural materials, and each one carries its own character — subtle differences in colour, grain, texture and tone that come from the plant it was cut from.

Those materials continue to respond to the homes they become part of. With use and time, appearance may soften or shift slightly.

A few simple habits are usually enough to keep a handcrafted piece looking and feeling its best.

Care at a Glance

Five simple
habits.

01
Dust Regularly
Lift surface dust gently with a soft, dry cloth, or a soft brush where the weave is fine or hard to reach.
02
Avoid Prolonged Moisture
Keep pieces away from standing water and damp conditions. If a surface becomes wet, dry it promptly with a soft cloth.
03
Avoid Harsh Chemicals
Do not use bleach, solvents or abrasive cleaners. Use only products specifically approved for the material or product.
04
Limit Direct Sunlight
Where possible, avoid prolonged exposure to intense direct sunlight, which can affect the tone of natural fibres over time.
05
Follow Product Guidance
Where a piece arrives with its own care instructions, those instructions take precedence over general guidance.
Caring for Each Material

01

Bamboo

Bamboo is a firm, close-grained fibre with a smooth worked surface. Most of its care is simply keeping it dry and dust-free.

Cleaning
Dust with a soft, dry cloth. For marks, wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry the surface immediately.
Moisture
Keep away from standing water and persistently damp rooms. Do not soak or submerge.
Sunlight
Prolonged intense sunlight can shift the tone of the surface. A position out of harsh direct light is kinder.
Environment
A dry, ventilated space suits bamboo best.
Avoid
Bleach, solvents, abrasive pads and unapproved polishes.

Rattan Cane

Cane is worked damp and set into shape, which leaves a woven surface that stays slightly springy. Airflow and a light touch matter most.

Cleaning
Dust the weave with a soft brush, working along the strands rather than against them.
Moisture
Avoid prolonged damp. If the weave becomes wet, let it dry naturally in a ventilated space, away from direct heat.
Sunlight
Extended direct sun may lighten the cane unevenly; rotate or reposition where practical.
Environment
Good airflow around woven sections helps them hold their shape.
Avoid
Resting heavy weight on woven panels unless the piece is designed to carry it.

Kauna Grass

Kauna is a soft wetland reed, dried in open air and coiled by hand. It is the most delicate of the three and prefers to be kept dry.

Cleaning
Dust lightly with a soft, dry cloth or brush. Avoid wetting the fibre where possible.
Moisture
Keep in a dry environment. Damp conditions are not suitable for kauna over long periods.
Sunlight
Keep out of prolonged intense sunlight to help the reed hold its natural colour.
Environment
Store and use in dry, airy spaces; reshape gently by hand if a form is compressed.
Avoid
Liquid cleaners, heavy pressure and folding the woven surface.

Living With Natural Materials

Every piece is naturally unique.

Handcrafted natural materials are never identical, and they do not stay entirely still. Some of what you notice over time is simply the material being itself.

Natural character

  • Subtle colour variation between pieces, or across one piece
  • Gradual tonal change with light and use
  • Visible grain and texture in the fibre
  • Small irregularities in the weave, left by the hand that made it
  • A surface that softens gently with age

Worth looking at more closely

  • Cracking or splitting in the structure
  • Weaving that has come loose or broken
  • Joints or components that feel unstable
  • Deterioration that appears suddenly or spreads
  • Damage that was already present on arrival

The first list is part of the material's character. The second is worth raising with us.

Product-Specific Guidance

Different pieces,
different needs.

Where a piece arrives with its own care instructions, follow those first — they take precedence over the general guidance on this page.

Furniture

  • Lift rather than drag when moving a piece, so joints and woven sections are not strained.
  • Use within the intended load — woven panels are not designed as additional standing or storage surfaces unless stated.

Lighting

  • Disconnect from power before dusting or cleaning any shade or woven housing.
  • Keep woven components dry, and follow the fitting instructions supplied with the piece.

Décor

  • Dust gently and reposition occasionally so light falls evenly across the surface.
  • Planters and vessels should be used with a liner or separate inner pot unless the product states otherwise.
When Something Needs Attention

If something doesn't feel right.

If a piece arrives damaged, or develops cracking, broken weaving or a loose structural component, please get in touch before attempting a repair. We would rather look at it with you than have a piece worsen.
